Intestine
Exercise Heals Digestive Problems
by
MitchAnne Yoga & Tai Chi
Intestine
exercise helps to accelerate blood circulation, increase
flexibility, and strengthens your intestines. This exercise helps
prevent or alleviate constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas, and
menstrual problems. It is particularly beneficial for women who
experience heavy bleeding, fatigue, lower back and abdominal pain
before and during menstruation (It is not recommended to perform
this exercise during your menstrual cycle or during pregnancy).
The resultant increase in blood circulation, or oxygenation
of the blood due to conditioning of the diaphragm, nourishes
muscles and other tissues of the abdomen, while the breath work
boosts lung capacity.
In turn, this helps your skin become cleaner, softer, and
more radiant.
You may do this lying down, sitting, or standing.
If you are lying down place your hands on your lower abdomen,
forming a triangle with your two index fingers touching. Inhale as you
push your abdomen out, and exhale as you pull your abdomen into your
spine. Hold each inhalation
and exhalation for 2-3 seconds. Repeat
100-300 times in a rhythmic motion. If
standing place your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees slightly,
relaxing your shoulders, neck and arms, keep your feet on the ground, back
straight, and move only your abdomen in and out.
Do not use your palms to push in your abdomen, you should use your
abdominal muscles only. In the
beginning it may be painful and difficult to practice due to your
intestines remaining hard. With consistency, your intestines will be more
flexible and you will notice the results immediately. This will also
strengthen your lumbar vertebrae if you have lower back pain. With this
exercise you will be able to accumulate Ki energy and your abdomen will
feel warmer and warmer. When you have finished, massage your abdomen in a
clockwise motion, that is direction your intestines flow. This exercise is
also known as Intestinal Breathing when performed lying down.
Intestine Tapping – Stand with feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly
bent, relaxing your shoulders, neck and arms.
Place your hands on your abdomen and begin tapping your abdomen in
a rhythmic motion with your palms. Increase
the pressure until it becomes a striking motion.
Repeat 100-300 times. Your
intestines will become stronger as you increase the number of repetitions.
Do not be alarmed if you see
redness or bruising on your abdomen. This
is a healing sign which means blood is circulating and the Chi energy is
beginning to flow to your intestines evenly distributing them to the
liver, gallbladder, spleen, and pancreas for a balanced digestive system.
The principle in oriental health is that you want the water energy
up (head) and fire energy down (stomach). Ultimately, a cool head and warm
abdomen.
We recommend practicing the
intestinal exercises prior to a Yoga class in order to increase your
energy allowing you to have a more peaceful, enjoyable, and stimulating
practice.
Heart Disease/Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure)/ Hypertension (High Blood
Pressure) Stroke –
When there is an imbalance of Chi energy circulation in the heart, you feel
a sense of sadness. Emotions
become unstable and you can experience pain in the chest and the underarm.
Symptoms of hypertension include headaches, anxiety, tightness in
the chest, tingling and/or numbness in the legs, and nose bleeds.
Symptoms of Hypotension include chronic fatigue, dizziness, difficulty with
memory and concentration, heart palpitations, tightness in or pain in the
chest, pale face, weak and slow pulse, and cold feet and hands.
Hypotension and Hypertension are both related to the malfunctioning of
blood vessels in the heart.
Symptoms that signal an onset of a stroke include numbness in the hands and
feet, weakness in facial muscles, usually occurring on one side of the
body, insomnia, dizziness, shortness of breath, sudden severe headache,
difficulty walking or maintaining balance and coordination.
The most effective exercise for all these conditions is to consistently
relax the mind and entire body. By breathing deeply from the chest, you
release tension and stress increasing blood flow circulation and oxygen to
the heart and brain. It is imperative to have continuous blood flow
circulation to the heart and to the brain. If blood flow is restricted in
any way, the heart and brain will be deficient in nutrients and healing
oxygen. Breathing deeply and consciously provides nourishment in the form
of oxygen to the body and helps relax the brain and the nervous system.
Deep breathing can help you release stress, anger, sadness, or other
unexpressed emotions. Physically,
it can enhance your immune system, control anxiety, manage chronic pain
and reduce high blood pressure.
In addition to the physical benefits of conscious Breathwork and Meditation,
it also brings you Inner Joy, Peace, and Love, allows you to focus on
being Present, allows you to think clearly and resolve issues more
effectively, bring Harmony and Balance in your life and those closest to
you, and allows you to connect and become One with your Mind, Body, and
Spirit.
Whole Body Relaxation
Lie
down on a mat on the floor or a firm bed.
A soft bed will not allow your back to be lengthened and straight
for proper flow of Ki energy (Life energy).
Place
your arms and legs about 45 degrees to the side, palms facing up. Relax
your body and make yourself very comfortable by shaking your feet, hips,
shoulders, and head back and forth.
As
you inhale, imagine inhaling healing energy through your chest and your
chest will rise; as you exhale imagine releasing toxins from your heart
and let your chest fall. Bring your awareness to your breath and inhale deeply
through your nose for the count of 3 and exhale slowly through the nose
for the count of 6, letting your exhalation be longer.
Begin relaxing your mind. Let go of any
negative thoughts, preconceptions or judgments; replace them with
positive, joyful, and peaceful thoughts.
Then bring your focus on your
entire body from the top of your head to your toes.
As you inhale and exhale scan each body part and slowly begin
releasing the tension in those areas, allowing each muscle to relax.
Begin with the top of your head, (Crown Chakra) your facial
muscles, neck, shoulders, arms and palms, relax your chest, lower abdomen,
spine, hips, thighs, knees, legs, calves,
ankles, feet, and toes. Relax
your entire body from head to toe.
Be
conscious and aware of each breath, breathing in Healing energy to every
cell, tissue, muscle, bone, and organ in your body. Take your time and
enjoy the process of letting go of the tension in your body.
Letting go begins with the body and then progresses to your
thoughts.
Continue to keep this feeling of inner peace,
joy and love. Make Breathwork
a daily habit to calm your mind and body resulting in a healthy, happy,
peaceful, and balanced life in the present.
As
you develop the awareness in recognizing the different nuances of how your
body works, and the ability to interpret a problem before it intensifies,
you will continue to progress in becoming an active participant in your
self-healing. We need to
become more proactive in our health and overall well being. Self-healing
begins when you are ready to be healed.
Breathing
Exercise The
most effective way to relieve stress is by breathing. It works better and
faster than any drug or stimulant and it’s free.
During a stressful situation, we do not bring enough oxygen into
our brain and vital organs thus causing headaches, trouble breathing, and
lack of concentration. In our
daily lives, we are not aware of our breathing, we continue to hold our
breath and engage in shallow
breathing.
Life
begins with your first breath, for oxygen is the first and most basic
necessity in life. We must first understand the relationship between
breath and life energy. Healing
begins with each breath. Breathing slowly and deeply provides nourishment
in the form of oxygen to the body which helps relax the brain and the
nervous system.
It
can help you release stress, anger, sadness or other unexpressed emotions.
Physically, it can enhance your immune system, manage chronic pain, and
reduce high blood pressure.
Regular
practice of the intestine exercise accelerates blood circulation and
brings into motion the internal organs.
This stops and prevents any constipation problem.
The intestine exercise heals and strengthens the large intestine
and the blood circulation gets more intensive all over your body and, as a
result, the body accumulates energy and gets rid of blockages.
The more intensive blood circulation nourishes muscles and other
tissues of the abdomen. In
turn, this helps your skin to become cleaner, softer and smoother with
your face relaxing and becoming more radiant/beautiful.
The intestine exercises help to increase your overall energy.
Practicing conscious Breathwork increases your ability to be
present and in the moment. It allows you
to connect your mind with your body.
Try the following breathing exercise the next time you feel
stressed.
Lie
down on a mat on the floor or a firm bed.
A soft bed will not allow your back to be lengthened and straight
for proper flow of Chi energy (Life energy).
Place
your legs about 45 degrees to
the side. Place your hands on
your lower abdomen forming a triangle from your navel.
Relax you body and make yourself very comfortable by shaking your
feet, hips, shoulders, and head back and forth.
Bring
your awareness to your breath and inhale
deeply through your nose on the count of 3 and exhale slowly through the
nose on the count of 6. As you
inhale, push your abdomen out like a balloon
and as you exhale pull the abdomen in.
Begin
relaxing your mind. Let go of any negative thoughts, preconceptions or
judgments, replace them positive, joyful, and peaceful thoughts.
Then
bring your focus on your entire body from the top of your head to your
toes. As you inhale and exhale
scan each body part and slowly begin releasing the tension in those areas,
allowing each muscle to relax. Begin
with the top of your head, (Crown Chakra) your facial muscles, neck,
shoulders, arms and palms, relax your chest, lower abdomen, spine, hips,
thighs, knees, legs, calves, ankles, feet, and toes.
Relax your entire body from head to toe.
Be
conscious and aware of each breath, breathing in Healing energy to every
cell, tissue, muscle, bone, and organ in your body. Take your time and
enjoy the process of letting go of the tension in your body.
Letting go begins with the body and then progresses to your
thoughts.
Continue
to keep this feeling of inner peace, joy and love.
Make Breathwork a daily habit to calm your mind and body resulting
in a healthy, happy, peaceful, and balanced life in the present.
10 Ways Yoga Improves Your Life
1. Most
people do not breath properly. Yoga
teaches you how to breath effectively and consciously.
In our daily lives we are not conscious of our breath, often we
hold our breath in our chest and engage in shallow breathing.
Yoga teaches you to breathe from your lower abdomen (center of
energy) for optimum health and longevity.
Breathing deeply and consciously provides nourishment in the form
of oxygen to the body, helping to relax the brain and nervous system.
With each practice you learn to become One with the breath.
2. Our
minds are constantly thinking, we need to let go of worry, doubt, and fear
of the past and future. Yoga
enables you to calm and quiet your mind and body and be still.
You are able to focus on the present and be in the moment.
If you think about it, you have everything you need... right here,
right now.
3. With
each pose you will gain strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance
throughout your whole body. When holding a certain pose with breath, you
continue to build strength and flexibility in all your muscle groups and
stimulate your meridian channels releasing any blockages in your body.
4. Patience
is a virtue. With Yoga you can
achieve patience with each practice. Your mind and body will feel more
relaxed and calm as you slowly perform each pose with grace and ease.
As you practice Yoga you will not feel rushed or hurried, but more
relaxed and peaceful.
5. Through
Yoga you become aware of other things such as your breath, your body, and
the thoughts that are in your mind. Yoga
is more than a series of poses, it is an awareness to Life and the world
around you. The poses are
merely vehicles to a deeper state of awareness. As you practice
consistently your awareness deepens and you begin to celebrate your Life;
ultimately finding inner peace, joy, harmony, and balance.
6. People
experience health problems because of blockages in Chi (Life energy)
energy and blood circulation. These
blockages can result in disease therefore weakening the immune system.
Through practicing certain poses for your condition, you will be
able to stimulate the meridian system, release toxins and blockages,
increase blood flow circulation and release pain or tension in that area
allowing Chi energy to flow freely throughout the body.
7. Our
egos are defense mechanisms we use when we feel threatened.
In your Yoga practice, you learn to let go of your ego and know
that you are competing with yourself and no one else. You should always
start at your own pace, focus on yourself and not compare yourself to
others. With each practice you will go within to listen to your body and
mind. When you focus only on
yourself your ego will disappear.
8. Through
Yoga you can bring Harmony and Balance in your
life and those closest to you. By
learning to relax, reduce your stress, and find calm and patience during
stressful situations, you will be able to think more clearly and make
better decisions in your life.
9. Our
bad habits lead our minds and bodies to unhappy, unhealthy, and
destructive lives. Through
Yoga you can see yourself changing your bad habits to more positive
healthy habits that will lead to a healthier,
happier, fulfilling, and more productive life.
What you learn on the mat reflects off the mat.
10. The
word Yoga means “union” or “connection”.
Consistent practice of Yoga allows you to connect with your Mind,
Body, and Spirit. Yoga will
ultimately re-connect you with your True Self.
Your True Self or authentic self is everything loving, positive,
joyful and good. Every
individual is born with their True Self and along the way we are
disconnected. We practice Yoga
to connect to our True Self and constantly be present, right here, right
now.
Self-Healing
through Yoga
The
question we are asked frequently from people is,
“Can Yoga really help my specific health condition?”
Our answer is, “Yes, if you practice consistently and have the
will and desire to heal yourself.” Healing
is a process that takes time, patience, and hard work with no immediate
expectations.
Modern
science has progressed vastly over the years but, it focuses more on
treatment rather than prevention.
Aside
from pills and surgery which is prescribed for symptomatic treatment, we
need to embrace a holistic perspective and treat the human body as a whole
integrated organism.
People
experience health problems because of blockages in Ki (Healing or Life
energy) energy and blood circulation.
These blockages can result in disease therefore weakening the
immune system.
Through
practicing certain exercises for your condition, you will be able to
stimulate the meridian system, release toxins and blockages, increase
blood flow circulation and release pain or tension in that area allowing
Ki energy to flow freely throughout the body.
We
recommend these condition specific exercises in addition to your daily
yoga practice, eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water. Harmony
and balance are the main principles for good health. Our body becomes
healthier when we balance our mind, body, and spirit.
Each
bone, muscle, tissue, nerve, organ, and cell are all connected and should
be balanced and harmonized.
Anytime
you begin a Yoga exercise program, you should always start at your own
pace, focus on yourself and not compare yourself to others. With each
practice you will go within to listen to your body and mind.
If you are on medication(s) for a specific condition and would like
to start a healing program, you must inform your instructor/healer of your
medical history prior to your session.
Private sessions are recommended for more significant health
problems.
The
two most common health conditions we observe in our practice are:
Gastrointestinal Disorders (GI) and Heart Disease, particularly
high blood pressure.
Gastrointestinal Disorders – include constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoids,
and liver disorders. These conditions are influenced by our thoughts and
emotions. It is imperative
that we relax our mind and bodies to improve the functioning of our
gastrointestinal tract. Our intestines accumulate toxins because of our
poor eating habits and subsequently, they become hard causing headaches,
skin problems, gas, and bloating. If
our intestines do not function properly our mind does not function
properly. Healthy intestines result in a healthy mind.
To remedy these conditions, we need to increase the blood flow
circulation to our intestines for them to be soft and flexible.
Our lower abdomen is the center of our body; when it is stimulated
we are able to accumulate energy and distribute it throughout our entire
body increasing your overall energy when you practice the following
exercises.
How
To Meditate
by
Mitch Anne Yoga & Tai chi
Meditation
has been practiced for thousands of years in Eastern Religions as
an effective way of reducing stress, managing pain, and relaxing.
In today’s society we are trained to move in the external
world faster and faster, but nobody trains us to remain still.
Do
you have trouble sleeping? Do you struggle with a problem,
constantly worrying about it and yet it is still unresolved?
Inner
and outer conflicts prevent you from dealing with situations that
come before you. Your
mental turmoil prevents you from living in harmony with yourself
and those close to you.
Meditation
allows us to explore our inner world and find inner joy and
balance in our lives. Meditation
is a definite process for resolving conflicts.
You do not meditate on problems in order to solve them, but
through meditation you see through the problems you have… set up
for yourself.
Meditation
is the process of learning to know yourself as you really are and
being aware of who you are. Meditation
is the practice of quieting and calming your mind in order to
become focused and present. In
a meditative state, the mind is not cluttered with thoughts or
memories of the past, and it is not concerned about the future.
There
are hundreds of meditation techniques which fall into two
categories:
Concentrative
and Mindfulness
During
Concentrative meditation, attention is focused on a single sound,
an object, or one’s breath to bring about a calm, joyful, and
tranquil mind.
During
Mindfulness meditation, the mind becomes aware of but does not
react to the wide variety of sensations, feelings, and images
connected to a current activity.
Meditation
in its truest sense can be experienced when the brain waves drop
to an alpha or theta levels. At
that moment, a deep meditative state is achieved where
differentiation of you from everything outside of yourself does
not exist. You feel
Oneness with your Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Prior
to meditation, it is advisable not to eat or drink too much. The
first thing you have to learn is to be still.
Establish a specific time and day and make it a habit. Let
go of any thoughts or concerns. Stop thinking about what is right
or wrong. And,
do not worry about how well you are meditating.
It will take many years of practice as you reach a deeper
understanding of the meditation process.
The
key is to focus. You
can use a variety of positions and postures including sitting
cross-legged, standing, laying down, and walking.
It all boils down to a matter of personal preference.
Live
in the Now…When you actually think about it, at this very moment
you have everything you need.
Through
meditation, you will achieve inner peace, joy and love throughout
your life… Not in the future but in this moment.
Right here. Right
